The educational offer of the Silesian Freedom and Solidarity Centre has been created for organised groups of primary and secondary school students. The classes provide a unique opportunity to benefit from the expertise of historians—both SCWiS staff members and scholars researching the history of Poland and Silesia in the 20th century. The lesson topics make it possible to use them within the core curriculum not only in history, but also in Polish language and art history classes.

Wujek ’81. Strike and pacification

Robert Ciupa, Bogusław Tracz

The album is intended above all as a tribute to the Nine Miners from the “Wujek" coal mine, who were shot on 16 December 1981 by a special ZOMO unit.

The texts are authored by Robert Ciupa, Director of the Silesian Center for Freedom and Solidarity, and Dr Bogusław Tracz, a researcher at the Branch Office of Historical Research of the Institute of National Remembrance in Katowice.

The album consists of photographs by Silesian photojournalists, including Marek Dworaczyk, Bogdan Kułakowski, Stanisław Jakubowski and Władysław Morawski. The chapters dedicated to the Nine Miners are illustrated with photographs from family archives, most of which are being published for the first time.
