Child Protection Standards – A Short Version for Children

 

– People who interact with you at the Museum should behave politely and respect your needs.

– No one is allowed to hurt you in any way.

– You have the right to be treated in the same way as all other children. Staff should not show favouritism towards anyone.

– You have the right to ask Museum staff questions and to receive comprehensive answers.

– Staff are not allowed to shout at you or use violence against you.

– You have the right to information and the right to privacy. Museum staff are not allowed to pass on information about you to other adults or children, except for your parents or guardians.

– Staff must not take photographs of you or record videos of you without your consent and that of your parents or carers.

– Staff must not enter into any romantic or sexual relationships with you.

– Staff must not offer you alcohol, cigarettes or illegal substances, nor use them in your presence.

– Staff may only touch you with your consent or in a situation where your health or life is at risk.

– Staff must not hit, poke, push or touch you in any other way that you do not want.

– Staff may only contact you during working hours and in connection with their work.

– Staff must not invite you to their home, meet you outside the Museum, or contact you on social media or via a private telephone.

– Staff must not behave inappropriately in your presence, use vulgar language, gestures or jokes, insult anyone, or make comments about your appearance.

– We like you just the way you are, but we cannot replace your parents, carers, friends, boyfriend or girlfriend.

– Remember! Whenever you feel uncomfortable in a situation, or if someone is hurting you or behaving inappropriately, you can tell another member of the Museum staff, who will listen to you and help! You can also email us at:
